Careers Library
A well resourced Careers Library is open to boys throughout the day for private study and university/careers research. This is kept up to date with the latest publications in respect of University entrance and books are for reference only, not to be taken away.
The preliminary careers work commences in Year 7 and continues through to Year 11 as part of the PSHE programme and through curriculum subjects. Pupils prepare all pupils for work experience which is completed at the end of Year 11, after the boys sit their GCSE examinations. Special careers events, talks and seminars are organised in Year 12 and the Head of Sixth Form prepares boys for their university applications or alternative career routes in Year 13.
Throughout the Senior School there are numerous opportunities for pupils to attend talks, conferences and open days and there are frequent visiting speakers. The Department organises a bi-annual Careers Convention that is open to all pupils and their parents (next event scheduled for November 2013).
Advice and guidance is given by the Headmaster, Director of Studies, Heads of Year, Heads of Department and subject teachers. In addition, all boys will have the opportunity of an individual careers planning meeting with Mrs Lizzie Taylor, an independent careers advisor, who visits the school on Friday mornings. There is also a lunch time drop-in session on Friday. Please contact Mrs Luckhurst - teresa.luckhurst@skinners-school.org.uk to arrange an appointment.
