economics

“There is no art which one government sooner learns of
another than that of draining money from the pockets of people.”

ADAM SMITH

Economics  is an option for GCSE in Years 10 and 11 (AQA).  The course aims to provide pupils with economic and business knowledge and skills which will enable them to better understand the world in which they live.

In the Sixth Form there is a choice of Economics or Business Studies to GCE ‘AS’ and A2 Level.  Each course is of one year’s duration.  Previous study of either subject is not a requirement, but is an advantage.  The Business Studies course aims to equip pupils with a critical understanding of a firm’s goals and how it operates.  The Economics course concentrates on more general topics such as Unemployment, Economic Growth, The Level of Wages, Monopolies, International Trade and Globalisation.

In all courses use is made of computer simulations and contemporary material from journals and newspapers.
