From September 2005 Skinners’ has been designated a Specialist School with Science status. This has made possible improved facilities for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; as well as the expansion of Electronics. The school has planned a range of projects in order to enhance Science learning at Skinners’ and beyond (please click here to see some of our community science work).
Within a science Department of 10 teachers and 3 technicians, we have 3 full time Biology Specialists, 3 full time Chemistry Specialists, and 3 full time Physics Specialists (2 of whom teach Electronics too). We also have 1 part time Science Teacher.
7 of our 8 laboratories are now conveniently placed on the same floor of the same building, with our new General Science and Community Laboratory on the floor below.

All pupils currently in Years 9 and 10 are studying for AQA Triple Award (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) GCSE and students also have the option of studying Electronics at GCSE. Sixth Form courses currently available are: OCR Biology AS or A-level, OCR Chemistry AS or A-level, AQA Physics AS or A-level, AQA Electronics AS level (AS or A-level Psychology may also be available).
