Congratulations to all students collecting A level results today.

We have had a successful, and largely joyful, A level results day

74% of grades were A* to B, with 45% A*-A. These are the grades that access the best universities. 15 students got at least three A*s, of which 9 got four A*s; a further 28 students got at least three A grades. The average grade is B+Two students, Mark Perepeliuk and Peter Karpenko who had fled Ukraine in 2022 completed A levels this summer: one got four A*s, the other got A*, A, A, B.

The university picture continues to suggest it is a buyers’ market: destinations have been very strong. Well over 80% have their first choice so far. About 15 students are in Clearing and are finding very good university places. The main destinations this year are Exeter, Warwick and Bath, it seems. Nine students were sitting on an offer from Oxford or Cambridge; two students were sitting on medical offers.

14 of our students had applied for degree apprenticeships. To date, at least half a dozen are now taking them up at a variety of firms: Coca-Cola, Amazon, Freshfields, Volker Fitzpatrick, edf (nuclear power) for example.

My congratulations to our students on their hard work and deserved rewards.
