Climate Conference
BackWe recently visited Tonbridge School for the inaugural Tonbridge Climate Conference (TOCC), where we debated the question: “Should countries be punished for not meeting climate commitments?” Representing different countries, we delivered opening speeches and engaged in negotiations from the perspective of our assigned nation. The conference challenged us to think about the economic, political, and environmental factors that influence international climate policy, while working in collaboration with other students to develop a realistic framework to address the complex global issue. It was invaluable in improving our public speaking and diplomacy skills in such a relevant debate and served as a reminder that global solutions are rarely simple when national interests are at stake.
Students from Skinners' took home three awards: Alexander Haywood won "Best Negotiator", Rafi Tootal was awarded “High Commendation”, and Alfie Playford was named “Outstanding Delegate”. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with Tonbridge and hope to welcome them to Skinners' next time.
