Hockey

As a traditional school sport hockey plays an important role for boys at Skinners’. We field around 10 teams throughout the school from U12’s through to senior U18’s in Year 13. During terms 3 & 4 we have weekly afternoon games sessions as well as an excellent mid-week fixture card against strong local state schools and some of the best independent schools in the region.

We also attend various Kent Schools Tournaments (Tier 2 & 3) across many age groups, plus our 1st XI takes part in the prestigious Frank Mason competition in Canterbury each year, reaching the Plate Final in 2026. Our U15’s also compete in the annual Peter Firminger competition.

There are after school hockey clubs which are open to all that start from October half term and run until Easter. For Years 7 & 8, hockey is compulsory for a term to help introduce more boys to the game before they switch to football for the other term. Boys can then choose either sport for both terms from Year 9 onwards.

A number of boys play regularly for local hockey clubs (where we have strong links) with a handful also playing regionally for their County, Talent Academies as well as a handful also gaining international honours.

We have an excellent smaller 7 a-side Astro pitch at school and use the local Hawkenbury full size Astro in Tunbridge Wells for training, as well as hosting matches.

There are several experienced and enthusiastic coaching staff at the school with the culture and main focus being on player development at all levels, enjoyment, teamwork and growing the love of the game.

Please do come along to any matches to show your support.
